Fell walkers are a generous bunch and when faced with an obvious problem such as fixing eroded paths on the beautiful Cumbrian hills, they are keen to help. Now all they have to do is whip out the mobile phone and send a text.
The Tourism and Conservation Partnership is launching its new text donation service for the Fix the Fells project. Starting on Friday 19th June people will be able to donate via their mobile phones to support the excellent work of the Fix the Fells teams.
Simply by texting FIX to 81400 people will be able to contribute to this much needed project, from each text sent nearly £1 goes to Fix the Fells.
Each text costs 1.50 plus your standard network rate.

This is the first initiative of this sort to be used in Cumbria and the hope is that it will provide a huge boost to enable the Fix the Fells teams to continue their excellent work.
The text initiative is at present a 3 for 1 offer as any donations will be trebled by the Heritage Lottery Fund, so your mobile phone will have rarely been put to better use!
Richard Fox, Lake District National Park’s Fix the Fells Officer said: “It’s really great when technology can be put to work for a great cause. We often use sophisticated modern machinery to aid the ancient skills used to restore the paths; but this is putting technology to use in a slightly different way. This is the first time that people will have been able to donate whilst actually out on the hills seeing the work that we do first hand!”
Sue Savege the Director of the Tourism and Conservation Partnership was equally enthusiastic: “These days, we all take mobile phones out into the hills for safety reasons, now they can have another great use. When people speak to the teams working on the fells they are always very supportive, and regularly make a donation to the work of these teams. We see the, text service as broadening that opportunity. We hope that it will make a real difference!”
The Fix the Fells teams have so far repaired over 150 paths throughout Cumbria, but they have many more to tackle, so do your bit by texting FIX to 81400.
