Western team May 2011 update

Shedding more light on Mickledore - phase 2

While “the may month flaps it’s glad green leaves like wings” in sunnier areas than Wasdale the looming crags of scafell blot out most of the potential sunlight.

As a result it proved necessary to extensively reseed last years landscaping as the short growing season prevented any germination beyond September. So the tentative shoots slowly emerge.

Rather than just watching the grass grow under our feet we have made steady progress on the final stretch of repaired path on the route up to mickledore. A hundred metres of pitching and several drains will be completed by mid June.

While this goes on the long term problem of drainage on the burnmoor bridleway is being solved. John Clarke, one of the national park’s most experienced staff is currently creating a substantial digger path along the problem section, and this will also be completed during June.
