Site description:

Blencathra is an emblematic mountain of the Northern fells. Highlighted by Wainwright as a classic walk, with options for exhilarating edge scrambles and fine views. Altitude of work site is 650m to 830m.

Geology:

Skiddaw Slates

Ecology:

Tough sedges and grasses, bracken, upland herbs with heather on steeper ground. Bog species in the wetter areas.

Level of use:

Moderate to heavy

Heavy usage on the steep southern and eastern flanks. Moderate use on the northern slopes.
