Ancient & Fragile
What looked like a funeral procession greeted people up at Greenside mines on Saturday as twenty-seven boxes, a cake and various signs were taken up the Red Tarn path slung between two poles. Charlotte and Fran got all the way up to the footbridges without stopping for a rest and Denzil and Rob and myself with local farmer Joe managed brilliantly just behind them with a slightly bigger load.
At the site by the first of the two footbridges below Catstyecam, the team quickly got everything out and the boxes stored in the sheepfold.
The rest soon followed. Emma was on her first drain run after the Welcome day a week ago – that she got the urgent messages left and a note on Ullswater shed door and found us was amazing. Jenni and Walt joined in the drain run up to Red Tarn and Carol helped me re arrange the work.
It was a lovely sunny day and crowds came down towards us especially in the afternoon. Most stopped to look and talk and they had seen the work on the path and drains being done higher up so it was easy to explain about the work of Fix the Fells.
