Joanne Backshall – Programme Manager
My name is Joanne Backshall and I am delighted to have taken over the role of Programme Manager for Fix the Fells. I am an ecologist by training and have worked in Cumbria for more than 25 years, at Natural England, Eden Rivers Trust and as an ecological consultant. In my spare time I love walking in the Lake District and have recently completed all of the ‘Wainwright Fells’. So I have seen a lot of great examples of Fix the Fells work and how it is protecting the beautiful Lake District landscape and its wildlife.
In my role as Programme Manager I am responsible for managing and co-ordinating the whole Fix the Fells programme from the practical work to the budget, communications and fundraising. My role is mainly office-based but I join the rangers and volunteers as often as I can out on the fells to keep in touch with those doing the hard physical work and to hear how best I can help them to take the project forward. That is the best part of the job and I can’t believe how lucky I am to be working on such a worthwhile project with such fantastic people and in the stunning Lake District!
